Ann Race 84 of Rainy River, Ontario passed away on Monday, April 14, 2003 at the Rainy River Hospital in Rainy River, Ontario. She was born on March 10, 1919 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Ann was born and raised in Winnipeg. She moved to Rainy River in 1936. It was there that she met William Race and they were married on June 17, 1938. They raised their family in Rainy River. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, fishing and gardening.She had a special love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Robert (Jean) Race of Kamloops, BC; Judith Miller of Thunder Bay, ON, Carol (Stan) Wolanicki of Rainy River, Janet Hughes (Dana Kaliska) of Rainy River, Kenneth (Jean) Race of Winnipeg, Rosemary (Richard) Tiede of Winnipeg and Valerie Race of Fort Frances. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband William Race on June 20, 1990, her parents Klem and Olga Komchenko, sister Vera Haponenko and brothers John and George Komchenko and son-in-law Frank Bolen.
Memorial services were held on Monday, April 21, 2003 at 10 a.m. at St. James Anglican Church in Rainy River. Reverend Sandra Tankard officiated followed by interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River.
