Aulis Ahonen, 87

Peacefully at the Rainy River Hospital on Friday, November 30, 2012, Aulis Ahonen of Rainy River passed away at age 87. Aulis was born July 31, 1925 in Puumala, Finland.
He came to Canada in 1951 and eventually settled in Tovell Twp, Ont. He worked as a lumberjack and fishing guide for many years. He enjoyed working with leather, making many wallets, belts and key chains. For over thirty three years Aulis would travel to Florida to spend the winter months with the Gumz family.
Aulis is survived and loved by his close friend Cheryl Gumz of Okeechobee, Florida and many friends and acquaintances who smile when they remember him speeding around on his scooter, his many jokes, stories, gifts of trinkets and the toque he always wore, even in the summer.
Cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place at a later date.
