Ethel Edwina McAdams, 98

Ethel Edwina McAdam
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our dear mother, Ethel Edwina Teasel, (Sipes) McAdam on Friday October 23, 2015 at the Rainy River Hospital.
Ethel was born March 19, 1917 in St. Catherines, ON to Arthur Teasel and Louisa Hainer.
Her mother left when she was 3 and Ethel and her brother Art and two half sisters Viola and Florence lived with their uncle Will, as her father was a merchant marine engineer and unable to keep them with him. After her uncle Will passed, Ethel and her brother spent their younger years in an orphanage until they went to a foster home. A very nice couple who lived on a farm took them in and she remembered them fondly.
She later met and married Harlen Sipes and had seven children. She was like many women of her time, a home maker, a wonderful cook, gardener and seamstress. She had many hobbies, among them crocheting, knitting, and caring for her flower gardens. She loved music and dancing, she played piano and auto harp, and she loved to sing old Bluegrass tunes and was great at harmonies. She also sang in her church choir.
Her family was her greatest joy and her world revolved around her children. After he husband passed away in 1971, she eventually met and married Earl McAdam and they resided in Winnipeg for a number of years, then move to Pembroke, before moving back to the Rainy River area.
Ethel is survived by her daughter Linda (Dennis) Watson, of Rainy River, ON, and Nancy (Glenn) Cosby of Sherkston, ON, and her son in laws Robert Olson and Robert Jones. She will be lovingly remembered by her 20 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Ethel was predeceased by her two husbands Harlen Sipes and Earl McAdam, her daughters Louise, Carol and Marilyn, her sons Lenny and Michael, brother Art and sisters Vi and Flori.
There will be a Celebration of Life held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day-Saints in Bergland, ON, on Saturday November 7, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. for family and friends.
If desired memorial donations may be made in Ethel’s memory to the Alzheimer Society Rainy River/Kenora District or the Rainy River Hospital Long Term Care, c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89, Emo, Ontario, P0W 1E0. Online condolences may be offered at www.northridgefuneralhome.com
