Move over Ground Hog, Millie the Beaver is taking over!

Move over Punxsutawney Phil there is a new kid in town; Beaver Millie will soon be the new master of weather prediction!
Rainy River’s newest celebrity, Millie the Beaver, or The Great Beaver as she was known before January 1, 2004 will be exiting her lodge next Monday, the same day as her American cousin Punxsutawney Phil does. However, being the bigger member of the rodent family, the beaver feels that it will clearly eclipse the ground hog’s prediction.
The location of her winter lodging is currently being kept secret, but an RCMP leak has put the location of Millie’s prediction to be somewhere near the Royal Canadian Legion in Rainy River (the last known location of her).
Residents should keep a keen eye out for Millie. If she

sees her shadow there will be six more weeks of winter. If not then winter is almost over.
Rumour has it that Millie is looking to become the official
spring time predictor for all of North America and this year she aims to prove that beavers do indeed know their seasons best.
While she is confident that she will be right, the Record is allowing people to assist her by filling out a survey offering Millie some advice on the prediction. One of those who offers will be the lucky winner of a prize! (See page six for details).
