Ojibwe classes could benefit all students
Letter to the Editor:
I believe it’s been too long since the Ojibwe language was taught in high school. Yet, learning the Ojibwe language is one of the more important parts of education that a First Nations student needs to learn before graduating.
There are enough First Mation students, both from Big Island and Big Grassy to justify at lease one course each year. The Board says they believe in supporting first Nations issues and yet they still don’t teach our language.
The First Nations students need this to build a strong foundation for the future and also non First Nation students could benefit strongly from learning the Ojibwe language. This would create more positive relations between first nations and non first nation students and people in general.
–Yours truly,
Isaiah Srivastava
