Rainy River Open a big hit

Sunday, August 1st saw 24 golfers descend on the Spruce Creek Golf Course for the 35th annual Rainy River Open golf tournament.
The weather, at least initially, was ideal; and the course was in great condition. Foursomes were determined and action got underway at 9:30 a.m. Despite some fairly heavy but short-lived rain in midafternoon, no one’s spirits were dampened.
At the conclusion of competition, Glenn Crackel had retainedhis crown as Men’s Champion for the fourth consecutive year.
Crackel and Rene Nordberg were tied going into the 18th hole, with Crackel ultimately winning by one stroke. This is the eighth time Crackel has won the Open title.
Second place went to Rene, with third place in the championship flight going to Brendan Nordberg.
In women’s competition, Angie Armstrong turned in a very strong performance to win the women’s crown for the second time. Second place went to Lorie Kuzyk, while Candy Teeple took third.
In men’s first flight competition, Peter Michniewich took top spot, followed by Roman Stoyko in second and Kam Kuzyk in third.
In the men’s second flight top honours went to Dave Ironfield, with Don Ricci and Marty Armstrong tying for second place.
In women’s games of the day, Angie Armstrong made the longest putt, and Lorie Kuzyk had the longest drive. On the men’s side Greg Wilson had the longest drive, and James Jarvis had the longest putt.
Event organizers extend their appreciation to all golfers for their participation. Thanks to Ken and Laurie Pentney and their staff for providing a beautifully prepared course and great hospitality.
