Dreaming it, living it and dreaming again

Today marks the end of August and for me it is the end of summer.
I look forward to summer all winter long and often spend a great deal of time planning camping trips even though there is a few feet of snow on the ground.
I look at what events I know are coming that will need my attention behind the camera during the summer, factor in family functions and then come up with a number.
The number is the possible weekends we can go camping between early June and Aug. 31st. In March of this year I estimated that at best we would be able to get out six times and began charting and planning when they might be.
We started strong, getting two trips in before July came with a third one getting postponed due to the weather (a factor that I can not control).
We were supposed to go in early July but decided that we could not afford this trip due to our planned trip to Vegas for a wedding.
So the next trip was my birthday, the weekend before we left for Vegas. That started a whirlwind of weekends and vacation time. When we left for Vegas we knew we were going to go camping when we came back, but we did not know it could possibly be our last weekend of the season.
Well here we are at Aug. 31st and we did not manage a fifth trip. Last year we went camping the weekend before Labour Day and froze at night. That prompted us to pack up all our gear and put it in storage. Then Sept. became very warm and we regretted putting it all away. So this year we are rolling the dice and trying for a bonus camping trip. We really only have one weekend left and that is Sept. 10-12th. Otherwise we are busy until October and then it is just too cold.
So if we get out in a couple of weeks (weather permitting) great. If not it will be back to dreaming about camping next summer.

–Until then,
Ken
