Community trails project release phase one plans
By Heidi Ivall

The Multi-Use Community Trails Planning Team has been meeting and planning on a regular basis and is now ready to share their Phase One Trail Plan.
Based on the recommendations of our Regional Advisor/Regional Services Branch, Nancy Tulloch, the team will be focusing the first trail on town property featuring several natural community assets.
While the project will be based on the availability of funding and in-kind, we hope to begin development of the Phase One trail, in early spring. All trails will start and end at the Town Office/Tourist Information Centre parking lot. In general, the Phase One trails will all be south of Highway 11 with Phase Two trails (for the most part) located north of Highway 11. Our plans include clear signage and rest areas and will identify points of historical interest.
The initial trail will take us through town featuring the water way and Hannam Park. It passes Heritage House and through the berm area at the south end or extension of River Ave. The trail continues through the mill yard and along the treed pathway south of the OPP station continuing behind Marmus’s etc. The plan includes developing finished pathways, some of which will require culverts and possibly a boardwalk over the Cameron Creek. The trails will be clearly marked with painted lines to identify the path. All property lines will be investigated and respected.
We look forward to the community enjoying the multi-use trails in a safe and attractive setting. We hope to create additional partnerships (i.e. Beautification, Birding, and Historic Committee’s) to help enhance the quality and overall appearance of these trails. When we progress into the development of the project we will be encouraging all volunteers that indentified themselves in the original Community Trails Survey to come out get involved and help create our trail vision. Together we can make it happen!
