You can help raise money for Alzheimer's by having a coffee break
News Release
Alzheimer Society
The Alzheimer Society of Kenora and Rainy River Districts kicks off its annual Coffee Break fundraiser on September 16, 2010 and is calling on local residents and businesses to trade in their lattes for a cup of coffee in support of the Society.
Besides being a great reason for socializing with friends, family and co-workers, Coffee Break is an easy do-it-yourself fundraiser that makes a huge difference in the lives of people living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Anyone can host a coffee break - at home, at work or other public venue.
There’s also the option of hosting a virtual or “cyber café,” or you can simply donate directly online.
That’s important because the prevalence of dementia is climbing steadily and no cure is in sight. In Kenora and Rainy River Districts, over 1,000 people have Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia today. In Ontario, the number of individuals affected will increase 40% in less than 10 years, and across
Canada, the number will exceed 1 million within a generation.
“There’s already a great need for services in Kenora and Rainy River Districts but these numbers will intensify the demand,” says Lynn Moffatt, Executive Director. “Fundraisers like Coffee Break fund real, tangible, hands-on service that help our clients live better and more productively with the disease. Every dollar raised throughout the districts stays in the district.”
Many local businesses have already signed up to host coffee breaks. To host your own Coffee Break, call us at 807.468.1516 | 1.800.682.0245 or visit us at: www.alzheimerkenoraandrainyriverdistricts.com
