Committee does a great job beautifying RR

News Release
Town of Rainy River

The Beautification Committee has completed another great season. Many people donated hanging flower baskets and trees in memory of loved ones; for which we are very grateful (see ad elsewhere in paper). The high school has been especially helpful and we owe a big debt of gratitude to high school teacher John Laplante and to the students for making wooden boxes to hold more garbage containers around town.
It has been a very busy year - with many turning out to help clean up the park and haul away branches and debris.
The town crew was very helpful in changing the basket hanger holders to other poles because of the construction on Atwood Ave. The Town of Rainy River also acknowledges the help of Darlene, Audrey, Betty, Lou, Sandy and Jeanette for keeping the flower boxes cleared of weeds and the flowers deadheaded. This was very much appreciated!
The Beautification Committee has undertaken the task of painting local fire hydrants - they will be painted traditional red again. The newly painted hydrants look great but there are still a few streets to be completed. These will be done this fall (weather permitting).
There is still a lot of work to be done at the graveyard. Even though the committee spent a few days trimming and cleaning, work is needed to straighten and level stones.
Bouquets to Ken and Marlene Kish, Janet Hughes and Jeanette for your efforts at the cemetery.
The town is also grateful to the summer students that worked so hard; they were great! The plants were always watered and a lot of grass and weeds were cut. They had a big job to do and did it very well!
The hanging baskets from Loewen's were beautiful. Everyone enjoyed them very much.
The Beautification Committee works hard to make the town beautiful. Keep up the great work!
The next Beautification meeting is on Thursday, September 30th at 5:00 p.m. at the Senior Drop in Centre. Everyone is welcome.
