Do you know an outstanding "Junior Citizen"?

News Release
OCNA

When asked to name a community leader, how many of you will turn to your local politicians? Religious or business leaders? Teachers and other educators? How many of you will point out the youth volunteering each week for an area food bank? Many young people are no less committed to a charitable cause or making their community a better place than their older counterparts, and it is time we recognized their efforts.
This organization is proud to support the 2010 Ontario Junior Citizen of the Year Awards through which the outstanding contributions and achievements of the young people in communities across the province are recognized.
Please help us by nominating a young person, aged 6 to 17, who is involved in community service; is contributing to the community while living with physical or mental limitations; has performed an act of bravery or heroism in the past year; or is a ‘good kid’ who shows a commitment to making lives better for others and does more than is expected for someone their age.
Coordinated by the Ontario Community Newspapers Association (OCNA) and supported by TD Bank Financial Group and Direct Energy, up to 12 individuals will be selected as the final recipients for the 2010 Ontario Junior Citizen of the Year Award and will be recognized at a special ceremony in Spring 2011.
“Young Ontarians who are passionate about contributing in their communities need to be recognized and celebrated,” says Tanis Kozak, Direct Energy’s Vice-President and General Manager, Canada. “Direct Energy supports the 2010 Ontario Junior Citizen of the Year Awards program because we strongly believe in the spirit of volunteerism and rewarding the leaders of tomorrow.”
“If we look around, we see many outstanding examples of next-generation-leaders working hard in their communities to make a difference,” says Scott Mullin, Vice President, Community Relations at TD Bank Financial Group. “It’s important to not only recognize the achievements of our youth, but also to encourage and support them to continue to follow their passions as an investment in a brighter future for all Ontarians.”
Nominations for the 2010 Ontario Junior Citizen of the Year Awards will be accepted until Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Nomination forms and further information is available at www.ocna.org, or by calling the OCNA office at 905-639-8720 ext.239.
Nominate someone today; young leaders can be found all over your community. It’s just a matter of picking them out of the crowd.
