Kids' RRWT still a go despite fire

Even though the main sponsor of the annual Kids' RRWT, Village Corner, recently burned down, they are still going to make the event happen.
Village Corner of Vermilion Bay, Ont. is owned and operated by former Rainy River citizen Holly Hanson and her spouse Wayne Holmes. They have sponsored the kids fishing derby for the past several years, even though they are always out on the river fishing in the adult tournament.
However, this past Labour Day weekend a fire destroyed their business. "All the prizes for the Kids RRWT were in there. We were going to pack them up this week as I had a few things to go together to make a prize. I’m going to talk to my tackle suppliers and order some more stuff," said Hanson just after the fire.
The Record offered to put out a plea for other sponsors to step in and fill the void for the Village Corner but Hanson said, "We have sponsored the kids tourney for several years now, and we want to continue. Thanks for taking the reigns, but we enjoy doing it and it means something to me. Rainy River is a small community, much like Vermilion Bay and We all have to support what we can thru good times and bad...see you @ the tourney...this year we may even stay an extra day!"
The Kids RRWT is run by KidSport and always has great participation. It is free to all kids under 16 and every kid gets a goodie bag. Anglers catching the largest fish win prizes no matter what species they are!
This year there will be two flights of anglers with the event beginning at 10 a.m. at the Government Dock. Regist. is at 9:30.
All kids must have a life jacket and be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
