Bergland to hold pumpkin contest Saturday

The community of Bergland, about 25 minutes north of Rainy River will be hosting its 1st annual Pumpkin Contest this Saturday.
The event begins at 10 a.m. with kids activities
It will be followed by a pie eating contest at 11 a.m. for kids up to age 16.
Pumpkins can be weighed in beginning at 10 a.m and until 1 p.m.
Prize categories include largest pumpkins for Adult and Junior divisions, Best Decorated Pumpkin, Best Vegetable Display, Largest Potato, Oddest Vegetable, Largest Zucchini, Smallest Pumpkin, Largest Carrot, Best Pumpkin Dessert, Relay Egg Contest, Tallest Sunflower, Guess the pumpkin weight and Guess how many seeds in a jar.
Prizes are cash: Adult: 1st-$300, 2nd-$200, 3rd-$100, 4th-$75 and 5th-$50
Junior (ages 13-18): 1st-$100, 2nd-$50 and 3rd-$25
Kids (12 and under): 1st-$50, 2nd-$30 and 3rd-$20.
The rules are different from the former RR Giant Pumpkin Festival. All the pumpkins must have been grown in the Rainy River District and by the entrant. Any pumpkin tampered with will be disqualified and the stem must be at least 3 inches long.
