Leslie Blaine Ivall, 60

Leslie Blaine Ivall, known to all as Blaine, passed away at LaVerendrye Hospital on Thursday, May 22, 2003 following a brief but valiant battle.
Blaine was born May 14, 1943 in Rainy River, to parents Joe and Pearl Ivall. Blaine was welcomed by his older brother Allen, and later joined by brothers Gary and David, and sister Marsha. The closeness and love shared by the Ivalls during Blaine’s upbringing on the Harris Hill family farm will continue to survive with his memory.
Blaine married Pam Atkin on September 16, 1967. Together they raised two sons, Earl and Mark Ivall. While Blaine was proud of him many achievements, he viewed his sons as his greatest legacy.
As reward for his success as a family man, Blaine was blessed with three grandchildren, Dakota, Jacob and Connor. Dakota has been the light of her Grampa’s life since her arrival in 1993, and though he had only to brief a time with his grandsons, they brought him great joy.
In addition to being a loving family man, Blaine wa a good provider and a hard worker. having been employed as a conductor with CN Rail for 35 years, Blaine retired in 1998, enabling him to pursue his love of travel with his wife Pam.
All who knew Blaine knew him to be a quiet man of few words. those who knew him well knew his words were carefully chosen and well thought. Blaine wa an intelligent man who was well read, and could contribute to a discussion on almost any topic; from current affairs, to gardening, wildlife, construction, financial planning, history, philosophy and politics. It was natural intelligence combined with a love of knowledge which made Blaine a man whose counsel was sought and advice heeded. His contributions will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on with those who love and remember him.
Blaine was the first to declare that he had no regrets; a private man who lived his life to the fullest, with dignity and compassion. He was a man who had strength in his convictions, and while he has left us too early, he left this life having made a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Memorial services were held on Monday, May 26, 2003 at 10 a.m. at St. James Anglican Church in Rainy River, Ontario with Reverend Sandra Tankard and Revered Ruth Ivall officiating. Musical tribute by Heidi and David Ivall. The honourary pallbearers were Heidi Ivall, David Ivall, Mark Ivall, Earl Ivall, Marsha Ivall, Lou Nicholson and Brian Heisel.
Blaine will be sorely missed by all who loved him. Blaine is survived by his wife of 36 years Pam, his sons Earl and Mark, his daughters in law Stephanie and Shana, grandchildren Dakota, Jacob and Connor, his mother Pearl, his brothers Allen (Ruth) David (Heidi), and sister Marsha, mother-in-law Vera, as well as numerous sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Blaine was predeceased by his father Joe, brother Gary and father-in-law Earl Atkin.
Blaine, as you travel roads we have not yet seen, may the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always be at your back, the sun shine warm upon your face, the rain fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again may God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
