Running for RR Town council: Gord Armstrong
Political/Community Experience:
I have served on Rainy River Town Council 22 years; 7 years as a councillor and 15 as mayor; have been President of Northwestern Ontario Municipal Assoc. for two terms; served on Rainycrest Board and many other boards within the district.
Why are you running for office?
Rainy River is my home. My desire is to give my best effort to my community. It is a privilege to serve and try to help Rainy River grow and prosper. With my many years of service I believe I can be an asset to the council and to the community.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing Rainy River?
The biggest challenge is to develop employment for young people to live and work in Rainy River. We need to explore many ideas to do this, whether it is by finding an industry, developing a birding business, developing a tourism program or any other program that will provide jobs.
If elected what do you plan to do about it?
I will continue to work on the town’s Strategic Plan, by encouraging volunteer committees that were formed to address Economic Development, Tourism, Community Promotion, Sports & Rec., Beautification and Infrastructure. Our community is fortunate to have so many people willing to help and serve on these committees. Thank you volunteers!
Do you have a plan or platform you are running on?
My platform is to continue to explore every and all possibilities to help my community grow. I believe in planning for the future and then working hard to make the plan work. We have in place a Vision 20-20 program. We have set goals, that spell out where we want our community to be by the year 2020. With hard work and dedication we will succeed.
Thank you for the privilege of serving as councillor. Please vote for me, Gord Armstrong on Oct. 25, 2010.
