Four Schools in the Rainy River District School Board to receive Parent Reaching Out Grants.
Thanks to funding from Ontario’s Parent Reaching Out (PRO) grants, four school councils in the Rainy River District School Board will receive support for school-based projects which help parents/guardians get more involved in schools.
The following projects received funding at Rainy River District School Board schools:
•Crossroads Elementary Public School - Spend Time Together and Read (STTAR)
•J W Walker Public School - Parent Outreach
•Rainy River High School - Parent Lending Library- Sharing and Learning
•Robert Moore Public School - Partners in Education
The grants are locally driven by groups such as parent organizations, school councils and parent involvement committees. These groups address local barriers such as language or poverty, and develop local solutions to help other parents get involved in their children’s education, both at home and at school.
“The Rainy River District School Board is proud to receive these grants, which will help to further strengthen the relationship between parents and the schools their children attend. We believe that increased parent participation can only help to benefit our students.” Said Dan Belluz, Board Chair, Rainy River District School Board.
Ontario’s new parent engagement policy helps parents work together with education partners so that they can contribute to the success of Ontario’s students and education system. For more information on the parent engagement policy, other approved projects and ways to get involved, go to the Parents section of the Ontario Ministry of Education website located at, www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/parents.
The Rainy River District School Board operates schools across the Rainy River District, including eleven elementary and three secondary schools. The Mission of the Board is “To empower all students to dream of the possibilities, to believe in themselves and to achieve.”
