This Thursday is Remembrance Day. It is also the 65th Anniversary of the end of World War II.
Citizens of Rainy River and surrounding communities will gather at the Rainy River Legion to remember all who gave their all so that we might have the freedoms we enjoy today.
Services at the Royal Canadian Legion, Major Hughes Br. 54, in Rainy River begin indoors at 10:45 a.m.
After the singing of the national anthem, Legion President Gerry Marchuk will welcome everyone.
Father Al Albao will then deliver the Invocation which will then followed by one of the most solemn moments of the service; the Honour Roll read by Mayor Debbie Ewald. She will read all the names that appear on the local cenotaph. They are names of those who lost their lives fighting for our freedoms in the two world wars and the Korean War. That will be followed by 2 minutes of silence at 11 a.m., on the 11th day of the 11th month.
A choir will then lead in a Hymn before Scripture Readings and Meditation by Pat Giles and Pastor Kors Pater respectively.
Legion Chaplain Gord Armstrong will then deliver a Prayer for Peace before another hymn and the Benediction by Gill Stamler.
The colours will then be marched outside to the cenotaph where about 70 wreathes will be laid at the Cenotaph Ceremony.
Afterwards the legion will host a lunch for all who attended. There is also a banquet being held later that day with tickets now on sale at the legion.
