LoW Township asked for input on usage of big tent

Lake of the Woods Township Council met on Nov. 2 at Bergland with Mayor Pizey, Clerk Pat Giles, Councillors Colleen Fadden, JoAnn Moen, Nancy Gate and Tony Sepers, Road Supt. Ed Pearson.
The minutes of the October regular and in-camera meetings were accepted.
Accounts in the amount of $95,395.86 for the month of October were approved for payment. C.Fadden declared an interest for the Miller Contract and the account in the amount of $30,014.66 was approved.
Road Supt. Ed Pearson reported that much work needs to be done at both the Morson and Bergland Halls, for example; roof leaking, moisture and mold starting, sump not working properly and painting needed. Council suggested that Ed get professional quotes for the work.
As discussed on Road Patrol, the Township should have a reclaimer disc for the grader. The Road Supt. stated that he has found one for sale. Council will make a decision on the matter at a future meeting.
“ No Hunting” signs will be posted at the new Oscar’s Beach park.
Council has a grave concern about the number of dogs taking up residence at the Morson dump. Not only is their concern a matter of public safety; it is a matter of the welfare of the animals and their young with the winter coming on. Council urges all those people who own the dogs to remove them from the dump area.
There was no Fire Dept. report as the Fire Chief was not present.
Councillors Sepers and Gate reported on the public meeting in Rainy River regarding the housing for Doctors and visiting Locums. It was a very positive gathering and people were willing to sit on various committees and otherwise help. Meetings continue.
Councillor Gate reported on the Recreation Committee: The Hallowe’en Party was a “screaming” success. Upcoming events include- Nov.6 - Roast Beef Fall Supper for $12.00 and $6.00; Nov. 20 - Craft sale from 10am to 1pm, food available, $10.00 per table; Nov.27 - Lutefisk Supper for $14.00 and $7.00.
Abitibi is updating their database and requires information on municipal restrictions ie; road access for logging.
The Clerk has received the Area Municipal Building Inspection Service (AMBIS) stats for July to September.
An application has been submitted for JEPP radios for the Fire Dept.
An inspection has been done on the pumper truck.... it’s perfect.
LoW Township has received a PST refund of #1352.43.
Mayor Pizey reported on the DDSAB meeting; the minutes are available at the Municipal Office.
Council has authorized the Clerk to negotiate the settlement of an outstanding invoice of $600.00 for wood stumpage. If payment is not made as promised, the Clerk is authorized to make deductions from amounts due, by the Township, to the individual.
LoW Township has agreed to Fort Frances’ request to attend a district-wide meeting to discuss funding support for the Airport.
RRFDC has asked for input in making use of the”events tent”. They want to know if area municipalities or community groups have any other ideas for use of the tent. There will be no rental charge for the year 2011, however a set-up fee will be required.
The 2010 priority report (on Council performance): states meetings were found to be slightly inefficient. Nevertheless, they have achieved the bulk of the actions they had planned.
Clerk/Treasurer Pat Giles has received a 30 year award for membership in AMCTO.
