The sounds of the season will be heard in Rainy River and Bergland this weekend as the Rainy River Community Choir holds its annual Christmas concert.
Under the direction of Kathi Berggren from Baudette and accompanist Jacquie Dufresne of Rainy River, the choir, 22 members strong, will be presenting “The Other Wise Man” and “Christmas from the Heart.”
The first show will begin at 7 p.m. following the Rainy River Christmas Parade of Lights. The concert will be held at the Rainy River Covenant Church on Hwy. 11.
The first part of the concert will be a Christmas Cantata. A cantata is a group of songs with a theme. The RR Choir will be singing a cantata called “The Other Wise Man” based on the story by Henry Van Dyke.
“It is a story of The Other Wiseman, his travels and what happens to him through songs,” explained choir member Anne Mailloux.
Following the cantata there will be various smaller groups of choir members performing solos, duets or music some recognizable and others unique.
The grand finale will be the full choir singing songs that everyone will know!
There will also be a guest appearance by Jeff Fraser who will sing a solo while accompanied by violinist Jens Bringsjord and pianist Jacquie Dufresne.
The second concert will be on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Lutheran Church in Bergland.
Admission to both shows will be $2 plus a non-perishable food item. All the food will be donated to the Rainy River Food Bank.
