Anna Szlauko, 100
Anna Szlauko age 100 of Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, January 7, 2004.
She was born on June 26, 1903 in Rakamaz, Hungary and came to Canada in 1930. She was united in marriage to Paul Szlauko on December 19, 1931 in Saskatoon. They had lived in Stratton and Patullo for a short while, then homesteaded in Deerlock, Ontario for several years. They moved back to Stratton to dairy farm until they retired in 1962 when they moved to North Surrey, BC. She was predeceased by her husband Paul on February 7, 1974.
Anna returned to Rainy River in 1987. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing and she had a green thumb for gardening. She often said she just loved to work.
She is survived by her sons, William (Gayleen) of Rainy River and John (Special friend Eleanor) of Endako, BC, six grandchildren, Bob Szlauko of Rainy River, Sandy Hopkins (Tim Spence) of Fort Frances, Coreen (Ken) O’Connor of Thunder Bay and Anna, Ronnie and Richard in BC. Also surviving are nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
A private family service was held on Monday, January 12, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances with Pastor Pat White officiating.
Interment will take place in the Stratton Municipal Cemetery in Stratton in the spring. Should friends so desire, In Memoriam donations may be made to the charity of your choice. At this time the family would like to thank Dr. Nugent, the staff and nurses at Rainycrest Home for the Aged for the wonderful care they gave mother while she was a resident there.
