Rainy River gets second choice for high speed internet

A new player has entered the High Speed Internet service providing game in Rainy River.
Until recently if people wanted high speed internet in Rainy River their only option was with Thunder Bay Tel. However, last spring Bell Canada spent several weeks upgrading lines in Rainy River to begin the process of offering an alternative to TBay Tel’s service.
In the spring, Bell spokesperson Norma Hughes Howard said, “The business case looks very favourable for DSL in the urban area of Rainy River.” All they were waiting for was final approval to begin offering the services. That came this fall and over the past couple of weeks they began offering the service to homes and businesses in Rainy River (the 852 exchange).
“The speeds vary between 2Mb and 16 Mbps,” explained Howard on Monday. Prices are scaled to the speed people order from a low of about $22 to a high of about $47 per month (for residential customers) if bundled with another Bell service.
To sign up or to find out more information about DSL, Howard said people can call the Thunder Bay call centre at 1-888-774-7725.
