Man caught with drugs at border

INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the International Falls port of entry apprehended a 24-year-old man trying to smuggle marijuana taped to his body.
On Saturday December 11 at about 12:30 p.m., CBP officers referred a pedestrian, Gerald Kantor, an International Falls resident for a secondary examination. During the inspection CBP officers discovered 46 grams of marijuana taped to Kantor’s leg.
The drugs were seized by CBP and Kantor was arrested and turned over to the Koochiching County Sheriffs Office for prosecution.
“Our officers are committed to the CBP mission of securing the nation’s borders,” said Kris Lessard, port director International Falls. “The hard work and dedication of the officers at the port of International Falls resulted in the seizure of this marijuana.”
The Office of Field Operations is responsible for securing our borders at the ports of entry. U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers’ primary mission is anti-terrorism; they screen all people, vehicles, and goods entering the United States, while facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel into and out of the United States. Their mission also includes carrying out traditional border-related responsibilities, including narcotics interdiction, enforcing immigration law, protecting the nation’s food supply and agriculture industry from pests and diseases, and enforcing trade laws.
