William “George” Thompson, 68

It is with emotional hearts that we announce the journey’s end of our beloved “Dad” and “Papa” who was called peacefully by our Lord on January 26, 2004 at the fulfilled age of 68 years.
George our father was born on October 25, 1935 to Russell and Marion Thompson in Manchester, Ontario. Later they moved on to Goderich and Clinton where George and his younger brother Harry took their grade schooling. In 1960 George completed Ontario Forest Ranger School.
At age 21 he met his future bride Geraldine and later settled in Rainy River, Ontario and raised their family. During this time George was employed by the MNR (1958-1986) and became well known as the “Best Bushman and Game Warden” of the Rainy River District. It was during these years as a CO where he met and made most of his friends. Later after retirement from the Ministry George took up position with the Town of Rainy River as caretaker of the local landfill site where he continued to enjoy the company of his many acquaintances.
In younger years he was very active in numerous sports. He had a passion for softball, gardening, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, woodworking, hunting, trapping and doing the “gum rubber shuffle” at times.
George was an Associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #54 in Rainy River Ontario.
George was predeceased by his father Russell, his mother Marion, sister-in-law Beth, grandson Bradley and also 2 infant grandsons “twin” to John K, and baby Jerome Thompson.
George leaves to grieve in his passing the mother of his children Geraldine Byington, 5 children and their spouses Margaret/Clarence King, John/Ritalyn Thompson, Tina/Richard Drennan, Bill/Lorraine Thompson, Joanne/Bob Crawley. His grandsons John, Ashely, James, Jeremy, Rodger, Robbie and precious granddaughter Tanis, 2 step grandchildren Crystal/Jamie and a number of great grandchildren, brother Harry (Clinton, Ontario), nephew Paul (Ottawa, Ontario), niece Debbie/Michael (Calgary, Alberta) two grand nieces, families of Ross/Flora Thompson (Tilsonburg, Ontario) and Gord/Donna Watson & family (Oakville, Ontario) and a multitude of friends.
We will all miss his hearty laughter, his remarkable kindness, his for-ever giving generosity, his complete loyalty to his family and friends, however not at any time will we ever forget the depth of his love or his words “never be in a hurry”.
Cremation has taken place. Interment will take place at a later date. In memoriam donations can be made to McInnes Creek Chapel c/o Vivian Locking, PO Box 513, Rainy River, Ontario.
