Riverview wins first tourney

Over this past weekend the girl’s took part in their first basketball tournament of the season. Six teams from the area participated in the tournament at Crossroads School in Devlin. The Riverview Girls proved that size is not always the deciding factor in basketball. Although outsized by their opponents they managed to win all three pre-playoff games against Robert Moore gr. 7s , Sturgeon Creek, and Robert Moore gr. 8s respectively. This put them into the finals against St. Francis from Fort Frances. Their quickness, team play, and solid defense were their strong points once again proved to be too much for their opponents. The Riverview girls won the final game 14-3 which earned them the gold medals.
Sturgeon Creek also faired very well, losing only one game throughout the day. Qualifying for the bronze medal match were Crossroads and Sturgeon Creek. Sturgeon Creek came back from being several points behind in the first half to win the match and securing the bronze medals.
