Local squirts win Fort Frances tourney

Lake of the Woods Bears Squirt A Hockey team took the Championship Cup in the Fort Frances “Top Prospects” Atom AA Tournament.
The contest that took place January 28-30 was hosted by the Fort Frances Snipers.
The Bears started their climb to the top prize with a 5-2 win over the Dryden Paper Kings, but then suffered a 5-2 loss to the Thunder Bay Comets.
They quickly rebounded with a 4-2 win over the Fort Frances Snipers.
The Bears then prevailed in a 2-1 squeaker, over the Thunder Bay Elks.
This propelled them to the Championship game, where they were again to face the home-town Snipers.
The Bears captured the Cup in an exciting fashion, with a topshelf wrist-shot from Luke Krause 7 seconds into sudden death overtime for a 3-2 win.
The Squirt A team will be hosting Districts this year March 5th and 6th,this will bring 7 teams to our fair city. Please come and watch some great hockey!!
