The Rainy River Community College Women's Hockey Team (in International Falls, MN) has completed another successful regular season, ranking #1 in the Western Division (ACHA Division #2) finishing with a 15-1-1 record. The Lady Voyageurs' hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence have once again led them to an opportunity to be the 2010/2011 National Champions!!
This current #1 ranked roster of the Voyageurs is comprised of many home-grown players. Several members of this team have grown up and played hockey in the Rainy River District for their entire careers, including Brenley Anderson of Rainy River.
The National Championship will be taking place March 10 -13 in Kalamazoo, MI. Over the next few weeks, the Voyageurs will be training hard to ensure they remain in peak condition and motivated to achieve the goal they set for themselves at the beginning of the year - a National Championship. They must also, during this extremely short time period, attempt to raise funds to offset the high costs of travelling to Michigan.
Members of the team and parents of the RRCC have joined together to form a committee to raise funds. One component of the fund-raising is a direct appeal to local businesses and the public in the Rainy River District for support.
Anyone wishing to help can make cheques out to the "Rainy River Community College" and contact Heather Anderson @ (807) 852-1677.
