Michael Dawber named new RR Librarian

News Release
RR Public Library

As of March 7, Michael Dawber is the new town librarian in Rainy River.
“I have been a library fan since childhood,” says Dawber. “It’s the work I was meant to do. I can’t wait to get started.”
Since May 2009, Dawber has been Rainy River’s assistant librarian.
As assistant, he made many improvements to the library.
Most importantly, he helped buy more than 2,000 new books and movies with a special one-time grant from the province.
Before coming to Rainy River, Dawber worked at four other public libraries in Southern Ontario.
He was also a health librarian and communications director for the Huron County Health Unit in Clinton, Ontario.
He has written or contributed to books about the local history of Ontario. Many of them are available to borrow from the library.
In 2000, he co-wrote the Illustrated History of Quetico Provincial Park.
Dawber’s first priority at the library is a customer service survey.
“The library needs to take a fresh look at its work,” Dawber says.
“People’s expectations have changed a lot. We need to hear what the public needs from the library today.”
He is overhauling the library’s website, introducing a new logo and retiring some out-of-date books.
In the meantime, the library is continuing with its regular programs.
The free children’s storytime – featuring books from the Blue Spruce awards – continues Saturdays until April 2.
Free computer lessons also continue until March 31.
