Cancer Society selling pins instead of flowers

To some, the Daffodil is just a flower. To us, it is a symbol of strength and courage, a symbol of life. It says we will not give up. It says we will fight back. It says we will beat cancer.
This year during Daffodil month in Rainy River, we will be selling Daffodil Pins instead of the live Daffodils we have sold in the past.
This year the Canadian Cancer Society is introducing a new Daffodil Pin that is both an attractive and inspiring way for people to show cancer patients and their families that they are not alone in their fight. Some reasons for the change are due to unpredictable growing seasons and shifting sales dates have resulted in varying flower quality in recent years. Due to the timing of flower orders and other logistical issues, it is almost impossible to adjust sales dates to account for weather patterns in the growing season. Fresh flowers are perishable and each year, despite our best efforts, we have to throw out some daffodils due to spoilage. Daffodil Pins will present fewer challenges as they do not require refrigerated storage and are less cumbersome to transport. We are selling the pins by donation only and there is no set price for each pin. People can donate as much as they feel comfortable giving. Every dollar makes a difference in the fight against cancer. The money raised by the Canadian Cancer Society Daffodil pin sales will allow the CCS to continue funding life-saving cancer research that brings us one step closer to finding new ways to prevent cancer and develop improved treatment options. It is also to help to fund vital community-based services so that patients are not alone in their fight against cancer. So please show your support for someone living with cancer! Make a donation and wear a Canadian Cancer Society Daffodil Pin in April.
