New organization takes over event
Letter to the Editor,
On behalf of the Baudette-Lake of the Woods Chamber of Commerce, I am excited to announce that our organization will be taking on the planning for the annual Willie Walleye Day celebration in Baudette.
First I would like to thank The Lake of the Woods Women of Today for their work in keeping the tradition alive for so many years. We respect your dedication and hard work as well as your decision to step down from this role in the community. We are excited to pick up where you are leaving off and wish you much luck and success in your other endeavors in the community.
This year’s celebration is still in the planning stages and is scheduled for Saturday, June 4. Some of the events planned so far are a craft fair, community-wide garage sales, 5K Run/Walk, inflatables and carnival-type games for kids, entertainment, food vendors and more. We are not planning a beer garden or street dance, instead focussing on daytime events that will create a fun, family atmosphere for all to enjoy.
We are also working with staff from area health care providers who will be planning a Health Fair that day. They hope to have several booths that will be offering heath information and services.
Whether it’s Willie Walleye Day, our annual Independence Day Celebration or almost any event in Baudette, we always appreciate the attendance and support of our Canadian friends and we wanted to make sure you were aware of this upcoming fun, family event! Watch for more information in the coming weeks about all the events planned for this “kick-off” to the summer festival season in Baudette and in the mean time, mark your calendar and plan to attend Willie Walleye Day 2011--coming June 4!!
