The word is that the Easter Bunny will be in Rainy River this Saturday for the Fifth Annual Rainy River Easter Egg hunt!
All the excitement will begin at the Rainy River Community Centre at 10 a.m. Activities will be broken up by age groups: 4 and under, 5-8 and 9-13. Last year the 5-8 year olds were the largest group and they were split up again into two groups!
The event is hosted by the Rainy River Recreation Board, the Best Start Hub and the Rainy River Chamber of Commerce. It requires pre-registration by this Thursday so that organizers can insure there are enough goodie bags to go to all the kids in attendance. Last year there were over 100! To register parents can sign their kids up at the Best Start Hub, Riverview School or the RR Public Library. Cost is $3 per child.
The younger kids will participate in several activities before hunting for eggs. Pin the tail on the bunny and a craft are planned at this time. Then they will go to the playground at Riverview School where they will hunt for eggs. Kids are asked to bring their own baskets or bags to collect eggs. They then bring them back to the community centre where they will then receive a goodie bag!
Ages 5-8 will do a slightly more elaborate craft and will actually be blindfolded for pin the tail on the bunny. They will also hunt for eggs in the dark, down in the basement of the community centre. “This is always very popular,” said Rec. Director Meghan Shanks. “This year we have a new twist. They will hunt in teams! It should be even more fun!” Afterwards they too will receive goodie bags!
The older kids will play kick the egg (like kick the can), capture the egg and also hunt for eggs in the dark!
Shanks said they have quite a few volunteers lined up already, but can always use more if anyone wants to come and help out!
Kids can come on Saturday and participate, but if they are not pre-registered they are not guaranteed a goodie bag.
