Our Lady of the Way School hosts DARE graduation

By Anne McCoy
OPP

On April 13th, 2011, Ryan Maguhn’s grade 5/6 class at Our Lady of the Way in Stratton celebrated their DARE graduation. To help celebrate the accomplishment, Inspector John Kendrick addressed the class and offered his praise to students for their hard work and accomplishments. He acknowledged the importance of the DARE program including police educating students about drug abuse resistence education as well as the relationship that police and students build during their time together in the classroom. Constable Anne McCoy (shown in her pink anti-bullying t-shirt) and Constable Brian Major were on hand to hand out the certificates. As with each graduation, the students are given the opportunity to choose a fun activity they would like to do to celebrate the afternoon. The students decided they wanted to demonstrate the Impaired Vision Googles to their classmates, help to “arrest” their teacher and were given the opportunity to check out the police cruiser. A special thanks to Mr. Maghun for being a good sport. Our Lady of the Way DARE class represents the 13th class to have graduated this year in the Rainy River District.
