Vernon Manford Wrolstad, 86
It’s with great sadness that the family of Vernon Manford Wrolstad must announce the passing of their husband, Dad, stepfather, and grandfather on Saturday December 20, 2003 at the Rainy River Health Centre after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Garry, Minnesota on August 5, 1917 to Henry and Rose Wrolstad. Vernon moved to the Bergland area with his family as an infant. He was self employed as a farmer and logger. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending some time hunting and going to the rapids to fish. He was united in marriage to the late Gladys McKenzie on January 2, 1945. After her passing he married Lorna Peters on April 18, 1998.
He leaves to mourn his wife Lorna, daughters Shirley (Wilson) Kaan of Saskatoon, Sask., Phyllis Carleton of Kelowna, BC; grandchildren Kim Carleton, Clint Carleton and Michael Kaan; great grandchildren Jessika and Madison; stepchildren Leona (Peter) VanHeyst, Dorothy (Eltjo) Wiersema, Joyce (John) Penner, Carl (Dawn) Peters, Martha (George) Siemens, Ruth (Jack) Siemens, Paul (Susan) Peters and their families and his sister Edith of Dryden, ON.
Vernon was predeceased by his first wife Gladys on June 29, 1997; siblings Evelyn, Earl, Marvin, Orville, Maxine and Kenneth.
Funeral services were held on Saturday December 27, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Rainy River, Ontario with Reverend J. Wilson Kaan officiating.
Interment took place at the Bergland Cemetery in Bergland, ON.
The honourary pallbearers were Pat Giles, Leonard Larsen, Ken Larson, Allan Johnston, Marlow Wrolstad,Glenn Anderson, Garry Wrolstad, Glen Wrolstad & Ray Lowes.
The active pallbearers were Eltjo Wiersema, Peter VanHeyst, Mark VanHeyst, John Penner, Jack Siemens and George Siemens.
