Fire dept. plays hide and seek with fire
Tue, 2011-05-10 11:00
On Sunday May 8, 2011 about 2:00 a.m. the RR Volunteer Fire Dept. was called out to a house fire at the Whitney Speaker residence at 212 fifth street in Rainy River.
Members of the fire Dept. walked in the home and found light smoke only in the upstairs of the home. After searching the entire home with thermal imaging equipment, it was determined that the motor in a gas furnace in the basement had seized up and hence smoke was blown throughout the upper floors until a breaker blew.
Until they searched the basement, firefighters were baffled by the smoke but a lack of a heat source found by the imager.
Had they not had that piece of equipment they may not have found the source of the fire that morning.
