Stratton man killed in train-vehicle collision

On May 20, 2011 at approximately 7:10 pm, OPP officers and ambulance responded to the report of a vehicle being struck by a Canadian National (CN) Railway freight train at Highway 617 in Stratton, Ontario. The community of Stratton is located 55 kilometres west of Fort Frances, Ontario.
The driver, Donald Robert BOLEN, age 92 years of Morley Township died when his southbound vehicle collided with a moving westbound train.
An OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator and Reconstructionist have attended the collision scene to conduct an investigation. CN Railway police attended the collision scene and commenced a joint investigation. Officers have determined that as the vehicle approached the level train crossing, the red lights were flashing and operating properly.
A post mortem examination will take place in Kenora at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
The investigation is continuing.
