Public Board begins EQAO testing

News Release
RRDSB

Rainy River District School Board students in Grades 3 and 6 will write the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) Assessments of Reading, Writing and Mathematics from May 30 to June 10, 2011. Grade 9 students who are in second-semester or full-year Applied or Academic Math courses will write the EQAO Assessment of Mathematics from June 2 to June 17, 2011. Grade 9 students in first-semester Math courses wrote the Assessment of Mathematics in January 2011.
It is important for children to arrive at school on time, and be well rested to ensure that they perform to the best of their ability. For specific school testing dates, parents of students in these grades are encouraged to refer to their school’s newsletter, to their school’s website, or to the Rainy River District School Board’s website at www.rrdsb.com.
EQAO assessments are based on the Ontario Curriculum, and students demonstrate the Reading, Writing and Math skills they have developed throughout the school year based on regular classroom work. For students with special needs, some accommodations that are consistent with regular classroom assessment practices are permitted on the provincial tests.
“We have made great strides in building the capacity of our administrators and teachers in the areas of assessment and instruction,” said Heather Campbell, Director of Education. “Our educators collaborate and work together to share and model successful strategies for teaching. Through our School Board’s improvement planning process, we are continuing to deepen our focus on the high-yield strategies that support a learning environment to meet the needs of
all of our students.”
Provincial, school board, school, and individual student results will be released in September 2011. Each student who
writes the provincial tests receives a report that describes his or her achievement on the test, which helps teachers
and parents support his or her learning.
