PC candidate finds communities have same concerns

Dear Editor,
As I have traveled around the riding talking to my fellow citizens I have found that from Red Lake to Rainy River we all share the same concerns about the future of our hometowns. I also know that through my discussions with the Minister of Northern Development and Mines who is also the Chair of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund that he too understands our challenges.
To help Northerners build today for a brighter future tomorrow the Minister has authorized $100 million in expenditures next year for the Heritage Fund. These expenditures and the millions that have already been invested in our hometowns will forever change our communities.
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation has invested $1 million in 13 projects in the Town of Rainy River since 1996. This investment leveraged $1.4 million in additional funds and contributed to the creation of 26 jobs. These projects include hospital and clinic renovations, equipment improvements and upgrades to the arena.
I know that we still have many challenges to overcome. Northern towns like Rainy River need to attract new industries and I believe there is an important role for the government to play in making Rainy River a destination for tourists. Every challenge has a solution and through programs like the Heritage fund. We can and will build a brighter future in our hometowns throughout Northwestern Ontario.

Sincerely,
Cathe Hoszowski
