Rolene Gutknecht (nee Morrison), 57

April 4, 1954 - June 25, 2011

It is with great sadness that we report the loss of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.
Rolene was raised in Keewatin and remained here all her life. Rolene had many talents and was always the 'organizer'. She had a great passion for figure skating and was involved with the Keewatin Figure Skating Club for many years. She loved going to watch 'Stars on Ice' with her daughter Leanne. She attended Lakewood School in Kenora and continued her schooling at Success Business College in Winnipeg.
Rolene started her working career at the town of Keewatin. She later transferred to work for Ontario Hydro (Hydro One), where she retired after 35 years of service. She loved her work there and the wonderful people she worked with.
Once she retired, her greatest focus was her family and friends. She often visited her parents (Rowland and Elsie) in Rainy River and enjoyed time spent out at Oak Grove. She was also very close with her mother-in-law Marjorie. Amongst many other things, Rolene enjoyed boating on Lake of the Woods and visiting at the Waterson's cottage.
Married to her husband David for 37 years, they enjoyed time with each other and did everything together. Her
dedication as a loving mother was never less than superb. Once the grandchildren came along, she then became the 'Perfect Grandmother' and she especially loved time with her grandkids over all.
Rolene died peacefully in the presence of family after a year long battle with cancer. We extend our appreciation to the Cancer Care Clinic at Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
The care and compassion that she and her family received in her final days at Health Science Centre in Winnipeg was truly 'above and beyond'. The medical team at HSC coordinated her care and nothing was left undone.
Rolene is survived by her husband David; children: Brandi (Gary), Kris (Danielle), and Leanne; grandchildren: Kaya, Colsen, Makenna, Jadyn, Rhiana and Ethan; Parents Rowland and Elsie; siblings: Dale (Cheryl), Glen (Sandy), Laurie (Ron) and their families; and mother-in-law Marjorie. Her loving
in-laws and wonderful friends are too numerous to list in a short paragraph.
She is predeceased by her father-in-law Herb Gutknecht whom she loved dearly as well.
Rolene is loved by many and will live forever in our hearts.

A Celebration of her Life was held on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Alcock Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Keewatin, with Cathy Giroux officiating.
Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Pinecrest Home for the Aged.
