16th annual Railroad Daze to be full of fun

The 16th Annual Rainy River Railroad Daze festival is set to run full steam ahead July 18-20th.
Many of the popular events are returning this year with a few new ones.
On Friday things will starting chugging forward when the business community hosts great sidewalk sales. Two of them will also hold customer appreciation events. Canada Post will host theirs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Northern Lights Credit Union will hold theirs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The RR public library will hold its annual book sale and the RR toy library will host kids activities that will include making tie died shirts and face painting.
The Village Green will host minnow races and the Rainy River Senior’s Depot will have its annual picnic on the lawn of the old CNR station with live entertainment from Hwy. 621.
The evening will see a fish fry feed all the hungry visitors and locals alike and the annual slow pitch tournament will begin.
A smear tournament will round the day out at the Rec. Centre.
On Saturday sidewalk sales will continue as will the ball tournament. A new event, a 5km run will be held to raise money for the local girls hockey team.
The Farmer’s Market will have some special goodies for customers.
The crown jewel of the weekend will be the parade, which is under guise of Parade Marshall Harry Arnould and his faithful deputy Anne Mailloux.
After the parade another new attraction will see Clifford the Big Red Dog visit the toy library.
The Rainy River International Radio Control Flying Club will host its two day Fun Fly starting Saturday.
The Great Beaver boat race will be hosted by the Rainy River Centennial Committee.
KGB Sports will host a puck shoot, RR Drugs will host a skipping contest and Lifestyles will host a Clothing Relay Race.
A petting zoo will be held at the Rec. Centre and just kitty-corner from there the Catholic Women’s League will host there annual penny table and luncheon.
The Legion will host live entertainment that afternoon, leading up to there annual and world famous steak fry.
A dance, featuring “Thinking of Pinky” will round things out at the Rec. Centre.
Sunday the day will start with a pancake breakfast and a non-denominational church service.
Gramma Dynamites will host a make your own pizza later in the day and Monster Bingo will be hosted by the Lions club.
