Cupcake bakeoff set for Aug. 27th

Have you heard about the “cupcake bakeoff” to be held at the Lake of the Woods County Fair on August 27, 2011?
Have you seen the fabulous “prize baskets” for the winners? There will be a total of seven baskets – one for each of the three categories for youth and adults plus an overall “grand champion.” Most of the baskets will be on display at the Baudette Region beginning August 1, with one basket at the Smiling Moon Café.
All area bakers are invited to participate. Registration forms are available at the Baudette Region, the Smiling Moon, the Northern Light, and the LOW Tourism Office. You may also call: Carol Birkeland @ 634-9469 or Eileen Olson @ 634-1071 for a registration form or more information.
Categories include: Holidays, Birthdays, and Open/Wild Card. For one entry fee, participants may enter as many categories as desired. Registration deadline – August 15, 2011. Late registrations up until August 27 will be accepted at an additional five dollars per entrant.
Entrants are required to bring three cupcakes for the three judges and a minimum of one dozen (more are welcome) for sale. Cupcakes need to be labeled as to flavor (both cake and frosting) as well as any other pertinent details (vegan, peanuts, organic).
Entrants need to bring their cupcakes in a covered container to the Lake of the Woods Fairgrounds “Home Arts Building” on Saturday, August 27, 2011 from 10:00 to 1:00 p.m. Judging will commence at 1:00 p.m.
The “bakeoff” is a fundraising event sponsored by the Depot Preservation Alliance to assist with the Baudette Depot Renovation Project – now underway. Whether you love to bake cupcakes or to eat them, the Cupcake Bakeoff promises to be a fun event as part of the Lake of the Woods 2011 County Fair.
