On Sunday, July 31st, 28 current and former residents of Rainy River gathered at the Oak Harbor Golf Club for the 43rd annual Rainy River Open Golf Tournament.
Conditions were close to perfect, with brilliant sunshine, a cooling breeze, and a golf course that was in very good condition.
Competition was organized in three divisions: men’s championship flight, with 10 entries; women’s flight, with four participants, and men’s regular flights, with 14 competitors. It was gratifying to note the renewed interest in the men’s championship flight. There were only three entries in last year’s event.
At the end of the day Danny Armstrong posted a score of 77 to win the Men’s Championship by six strokes. Glenn Crackel and Dewey Beckel tied for second place with a score of 83.
In women’s competition, Angie Armstrong successfully defended her title with a score of 93. Rose O’Connor finished second with a score of 100, while Nicole Armstrong finished third, posting 107.
There were two men’s regular flights. Ron Mondor took top spot in the first flight with a score of 81. Greg Wilson took second place, posting an 84. James Jarvis shot an 87 to take third spot.
In the second flight Don Tolen took top spot with a score of 95, second place went to Marty Kreger with a 98, and third spot went to Cody Jarvis with 99.
