Fatal ATV accident near Rainy River

At approximately 6:00pm (EST) August 16, 2011 Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers from the Rainy River District Detachment were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision involving an off-road vehicle.
Investigation determined that 10 year old Joshua Helm, a male from Dawson, Ontario, was operating an all terrain vehicle (ATV) on private property along Worthington Road in Dawson Township, lost control of the vehicle and struck a barbed wire fence. He was subsequently ejected. The male was taken to Rainy River Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) from Dryden and Kenora Detachments attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

A Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO) from Rainy River detachment was also on scene to assist.

The investigation is continuing.
