News Release
O.P.P.
On Saturday August 27th 2011, just before 8:00 pm the Kenora OPP received a report of a missing person in the Obabikon Bay area on Lake on the Woods.
Police were advised that 68 year old Bill Amason, owner of Obabikon Bay Camp, went out on the lake in the early evening and when he did not return within the expected time, his friends and family went to look for him.
His boat was located drifting near the area he had said he was going and his clothes were found on a nearby rock. It appears his boat may have drifted away while he was on shore and he attempted to swim after it.
Friends and family searched the area with negative results and called the OPP to assist. The Kenora OPP Marine Unit attended and are continuing to search the area for Amason.
Amason is a resident of Summerfield, Florida. He is a seasonal resident of Morson, Ontario.
OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Unit are on route expected to be in the area by Tuesday to assist the search.
