There were 38 kids registered for the annual Kids MBI, held on the Government Dock in Morson. Fishing was slow and three time champion Pat Vogan retired from the field this year. Leaving it wide open for anyone to win.
Little did everyone know, but Pat’s younger brothers were about to step up to the plate and work it!
Nick Vogan, 10, caught the first fish of the derby, a small perch, not long after the one hour event began.
Many kids reported losing fish or having bites, but at the 20 minute mark Nick struck again, catching another perch.
Nothing else was caught until the 47 minute mark when Carmen Gill, 7, reeled up a Northern Pike!
Feeling the pressure with only a one fish lead, Vogan cranked it up a notch catching another perch at the 50 min. mark!
Then at the 54 min. mark Mike Vogan caught a perch to tie Gill for second place!
Nick took home first place; a trophy and gift cert. for McDonalds and a new hat!
Gill and Mike Vogan came in 2nd and each received a McDonalds cert. and a hat!
All 38 kids received goodie bags and tournament t-shirts!
Wolf Howling contest
Emcee Vaughn Murray held his second annual wolf howling contest. Eleven kids competed for the title. The top dog was Caleb Jack followed by Mike Vogan and Seree Gibbins. They each received a McDonalds gift cert. and a free burger at the MBI.
