Despite cries from some tourist operators about business being down this year from the U.S., border statistics at Rainy River and Fort Frances have shown little change over last year.
U.S. visitors at Rainy River crossing into Canada were actually up slightly in May from 10,415 last year to 10,499 this year. In June they declined slightly from 14,913 last year to 14,772 this year.
At Fort Frances the numbers rose in May from 45,011 last year to 47,688 this year. In June they rose slightly from 78,483 last year to 78,959 this year.
The only exception to the rule in Northwestern Ontario is the Pigeon River crossing that saw about a 6% drop in May and a 9% drop in June.
