Hampton wants guarantees for seniors in nursing homes

Honourable Tony Clement
Minister of Health and Long-Term Care
OPEN LETTERS
Dear Minister,
It was reported today that your Associate Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Honourable Dan Newman, said no elderly resident will be force out of their bed on September 30th, the day your Ministry was to cut funding for these beds.
I write today to ask for a guarantee in writing that funding will be put in place so beds will continue to be available for the elderly residents at Pinecrest and Rainycrest Long-Term Care Homes who your government threatened with eviction at the end of summer.
Sincerely,
Howard Hampton, MPP

Honourable Tony Clement
Minister of Health and Long-Term Care
Dear Minister,
Your Ministry has decided to stop funding interim beds at the Rainycrest Home in Fort Frances as of September 30th of this year. Understandably, this decision has created great concern among the family members of residents at the Home.
Where will these elderly residents go? New beds will not open in Northwestern Ontario until next summer at the earliest and there are already long waiting lists for these beds. Are you expecting these residents to be separated from their families to be sent to a long-term care bed in Southern Ontario?
Your decision to force elderly patients out of their bed in a home-for-the-aged is cruel. Please restore the funding for these beds immediately.
Sincerely,
Howard Hampton, MPP
