On Saturday August 27th 2011 the Kenora OPP were advised of a missing person in the Obabikon Bay area of Lake of the Woods. The missing man was identified as 68 year old Bill AMASON, a resident of Florida who lived seasonally in Morson. It was believed that he may have tried to swim to his boat after it drifted away. A search of the shorelines and area was conducted by friends and family and the Kenora OPP Marine Unit was called in.
The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) were mobilized and began to search the area on August 30, 2011. On August 31st, 2011 the body of Mr. AMASON was located by the Kenora OPP Marine Unit in the water close to his last known location.
A post mortem examination is scheduled for September 1st, 2011 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
