Volunteers deserve credit

Letter to the editor,
This past weekend with the Giant Pumpkin Festival and the upcoming weekend with the Rainy River Walleye Tournament, Rainy River is demonstrating why our local communities are such great places to live.
Maybe we don’t have a stadium where we can have a professional sports team, or a concert hall for a star-studded extravaganza. But we do have a Big Tent where most of the town and guests from several hundred miles away can just show up for potluck picnic or a weekend of fishing.
The key item that makes these events work are a special species of individual- the volunteer. The unassuming individuals who are ready to step up to the plate and pitch in to see things get done. Whether it’s putting up a tent, serving coffee and food, lugging tables and chairs, delivering pamphlets, or weighing pumpkins, the collective efforts of our friends and neighbours turn us from a municipality into a community.
So volunteers all, thank you for a great job and keep up the good work. And remember when it’s your turn to come out of the dugout, step right up to the plate and swing for all you’re worth. Your community is counting on you.
