Police make drug bust at Rainy River Post Office

The Fort Frances Community Drug Action Team has completed several investigations that have resulted in drugs being seized and individuals being charged with several drug related offences.
On February 29, 2012 Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers arrested a 25 year old Emo, Ontario male as he exited the Rainy River Post Office after picking up a parcel containing marihuana. Police charged him with two counts of Possession of a Schedule II drug after the package they seized was found to contain 155.3 grams of marihuana bud from British Columbia and small amounts of cannabis resin. He will appear in Fort Frances Court on March 12, 2012.
On February 24, 2012, OPP officers stopped a westbound vehicle in Halkirk Township and arrested both occupants for several drug offences including Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule I drug, Possession of a Schedule I drug and Possession of Schedule II drug. During their investigation, police seized a large amount of oxycontin, small amounts of oxycocet and a small amount of marihuana. A 27 year old male and a 25 year old female, both from Thunder Bay, will appear in Fort Frances Court on March 26, 2012.
On February 22, 2012 police stopped a vehicle near the 500 block of Kings Highway in Fort Frances. As a result of police investigation, officers arrested a 21 year old Fort Frances male with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking marihuana. During the investigation, police seized 73 grams of marihuana. The male is scheduled to attend Fort Frances Court on March 26, 2012.
On February 21, 2012 police arrested a 17 year Fort Frances male for possession of marihuana. He has been schedule to appear in Fort Frances Court on March 26, 2012.
On January 12, 2012 police conducted a vehicle stop at the area of Frog Creek Road on Couchiching First Nation. The occupants included a Thunder Bay female and a Fort Frances male. As a result of police investigation, officers seized 100 Ecstacy pills and charged the 31 year old Fort Frances male with Possession contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
On December 30, 2011 officers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Rainy River District Detachment received a report of a break and enter at a residence on Second Street, Rainy River, Ontario.
Officers arrived at approximately 6:15 PM and spoke to the owners, whom had arrived home and discovered the break and enter. Information obtained in the investigation found that culprit(s) attended the residence while they were out. Items stolen from the home include:
-One pair of gold earrings
-One black IPOD
-One black flip phone
OPP is continuing to investigate the incident and is looking to the public for assistance in solving this act of theft. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
The Ontario Provincial Police reminds community members to report suspicious activity to police forthwith and reminds all residents to lock all vehicles and buildings.
