News Release
OLWS

Students in grades JK to grade two from Our Lady of the Way School participated in a “100 Day Celebration” on Monday, February 6th. The kindergarten students have been tracking the days of school since the very first day in anticipation of day 100. The students celebrated with a series of activities around the number 100. Students enjoyed decorating and wearing 100 Day glasses, colouring a 100 grid with their names printed on it in a repeating pattern, and building a structure with 100 blocks. They also brought in 100 Day collections that they put together at home with their parents. The students glued their 100 Day collections onto a large 100 grid, which are now on display in the kindergarten room. Students counted to 100, skip counted to 100 and then enjoyed 100 Day cupcakes and chocolate milk. Older students from grades 7 and 8 helped the students rotate and complete their activities.
Valentines Day
On Feb. 14th, Our Lady of the Way School celebrated Valentine’s day with the theme Love and Justice. Students and Staff wore pink to represent Justice and Anti-bullying or red to represent Love. Students celebrated with classroom parties and the day concluded with a friendly Student vs Teacher volleyball game. The entire student body enjoyed cheering on their favourite team and sharing in the valentine fun.
Crepes and Bannock
On February 2, 2012 the French and Ojibwe Classes at Our Lady of The Way concluded their Food Unit Studies by having a school wide feast that celebrated cultural food. The French students made crêpes while the Ojibwe students made bannock. In preparation for the celebration, both classes researched bannock and crêpes and looked up recipes and facts on the food. On February 2nd, the students prepared and made the bannock and crêpes and set out the toppings. At lunch, the entire school was invited down to the gym to partake of the food. Everyone enjoyed the delicious food. Special thanks to Mrs. Tymkin, Ms. Brielmann, Mrs. Medicine and Ms. Hunter and to the students who participated in cooking and preparation.
Dog Sled
Students and staff at Our Lady of the Way School are having a busy month! DRA and Casi testing have been completed and report cards are ready to be distributed! We have also celebrated the Hundredth Day of School on Monday, February 6th and students had a great time learning and better understanding all about what one hundred means and looks like. On Tuesday, February 7th, students and staff were all treated to an exciting dog sled ride. Our guest, Burton Penner who is the owner of Borealis Dog Sled Adventures from Vermilion Bay, was at the school to teach the students about his dogs, and their importance and roles while pulling the sled in this traditional method of travel. Students were allowed to pet the dogs and even cuddle two adorable sled dog puppies that were brought along!
