Committee supports continuing work on locum house

News Release
Rainy River House

Since 2010 the Rainy River Health Care Committee has been working closely with the local physicians in attempt to increase Rainy River’s attractiveness for health care professionals.
Currently the Committee has been working towards the construction of a duplex housing unit which will be utilized by temporary or locum physicians and medical students. Considering the current physician crisis the Committee is of the opinion that continuing with the construction is critical to the physician recruitment process.
Due to the existing physician shortage, Rainy River Mayor Deborah Ewald attended meetings in Toronto and was able to speak with the Minister of Health and Long-term Care, the Honourable Deborah Matthews and also her parliamentary assistant Liz Sandals. The Minister assured Mayor Ewald that the Government has no plans to close any hospitals or emergency rooms. The Ministry is also well aware of the doctor shortage we are facing in the west end of the Rainy River District.
The Committee is asking all area residents to write letters to Minister Matthews as well as Sarah Campbell our M.P.P. Let them know how any decrease in services or emergency room closure will affect them personally.
Letters or e-mails can be sent to the following addresses:
